The annual Ghana Energy Games took place on Friday the 18th of August 2023, at the Akuse Clubhouse in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
As part of activities marking the day, the Ghana Tug of War Championship was organized amongst the various institutions with the support of the Ghana Tug of War Association.
The event which is aimed at promoting cooperation in Ghana’s Energy Sector under the theme, TUG OF PEACE, had institutions like the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Ghana GRID Company (GRIDCo), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Volta River Authority (VRA), Bulk Oil Storage & Transportation (BOST), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other institutions competed in other activities including soccer, table tennis, Volleyball, Chess, Draft and fun games.
Amongst all, the event Tug of War event carried the day with a lot of excitement. The games were characterised by the brilliant display of skills, strength, stamina, and teamwork as the various teams struggled to overcome each other to lead their respective groups.
Emmanuel Ola Williams, the President of the Ghana tug of war federation was there with his technical team to provide support with Officiating and coordination.
Speaking after the event, he praised the various participants for their performances. He congratulated the winners for their brilliant performance and wished the losers better luck next time.
According to him, the future is bright for Tug of War in Ghana and Africa in general. He called on the corporate community to join hands with the Ghana Tug of War Association in order to promote the sport in Ghana since it presents a lot of opportunities for Ghana on the global platform.
At the end of the championship, National Petroleum Authority winners of Group B, managed to conquer their counterparts from the Volta River Authority, winners of Grou A by pulling their way to emerge as winners.
Captain of the day for the Energy Games went to Baba Salihu Abdulai, IM & HSE, Volta Regional Office. Winners were presented with trophies and medals.
