Anticipation is building as the 2023 edition of the Chale Wote Street Art Festival gears up to unleash an even more exhilarating experience, thanks to the organizers’ meticulous planning to elevate the festivities.
Set against the backdrop of Ghana’s rich cultural tapestry, the event has been a fixture in the artistic calendar for over a decade.
For twelve remarkable years, James Town in Accra served as the vibrant host of this cultural celebration. However, this year brings a change in scenery as the festival finds a grand new home at the iconic Black Star Square in Osu, Accra.
From Monday, August 21, 2023, to Sunday, August 27, 2023, this sprawling venue will come alive with an explosion of creativity, transforming the heart of the city into a canvas of expression.
Chale Wote, often referred to as the epitome of artistic convergence, stands as a platform where art, music, dance, and performance intersect harmoniously. It’s a space that connects diverse local and international artists with enthusiastic patrons, fostering an environment where creativity flourishes collectively.
Since its inception in 2011, CHALE WOTE has remained at the forefront of artistic innovation. The festival boldly intertwines an array of expressions, ranging from the captivating strokes of street painting to the poignant messages conveyed through graffiti murals.
It embraces photography, theater, spoken word, immersive interactive installations, exhilarating street performances, daring extreme sports spectacles, evocative film exhibitions, a resplendent fashion parade, a pulsating music block party, and empowering recyclable design workshops. Beyond its impressive range, CHALE WOTE has also pioneered the street art movement in Accra, influencing kindred events across the nation.
As festival-goers prepare to immerse themselves in the vibrant public art interventions by African and international artists, an array of delights awaits:
