
In a thrilling display of strength, camaraderie, and sportsmanship, the Senior Staff Association at the University of Ghana, UEW Chapter, hosted a Tug of War Competition at the North Campus Hockey Pitch on the 20th of December, 2023.

A total of six teams participated in the competition, namely UTAG, GAUA, SSA, AJUMAKO, TEWU, and Radio Windy Bay. The teams engaged in fierce battles of strength and strategy to secure victory.

The competition kicked off with TEWU facing off against GAUA in the first pull, with TEWU emerging victorious in two straight rounds.
The second pull witnessed UTAG and SSA in action, resulting in UTAG clinching the win with two straight victories.

The tension escalated in the third pull between AJUMAKO and Radio Windy Bay, where participants initially hesitated but later embraced the challenge.

At the end of the entire competition, UTAG, TEWU, and AJUMAKO emerged as the top contenders, securing their spots in the final showdown scheduled for January.

This event was not just about physical prowess; it revolved around the theme of “The Role of Fun Games in Building Social Capital.” Participants and spectators alike witnessed how such activities can foster unity and teamwork among diverse groups.

The occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including the Acting Registrar of the University of Education Winneba, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tetteh-Mensah, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.
The event also received support from notable figures such as Professor Victor Antwi (Pro Vice-Chancellor), Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong (Dean, Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences, and Home Economics), Mr. Isaac Donkor (SSA National Chairman), and Mr. Collins Awuku (Director of Windy Bay Radio).
Leading the Ghana Tug of War Association was Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams, the President, whose presence added prestige to the event.
As the teams prepare for the grand finale in January, the Tug of War competition at the University of Education Winneba has not only showcased physical prowess but also emphasized the importance of fun games in fostering social bonds.
