
U/E: Regional and District Commanders hold meeting with Chiefs and Elders of Zorkor.
The Upper East Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service together with the Bongo District Commander and in the company of other police personnel have today, 19th January 2023, held an all-important meeting with the Chiefs and elders as well as the youth of Zorkor a suburb of the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.
The meeting which lasted for about an hour and a half was converted by the Regional Commander DCOP Mr. Lomotey and his colleagues to discuss some worrying security issues that affect the daily lives of residents in the community.
The meeting was also to inspect an abandoned police station facility in the community.
The Police complained that the security situation in the community is so worrying and needs to be addressed with a sense of urgency.
The commander in his speech pleaded with the community to help the police clamp down on criminals in the community by exposing them to the police.
The Chiefs and Elders together with the Queen Mothers also pleaded with the Commanders to revamp the abandoned police station structure and also increase police patrol in the community.
Weighing the security trend in the community, the Police asked the seven Chiefs and Assemblymen of the community to select six young men of integrity from each sub-community to be trained by the Ghana Police Service who would help curb the security threat in the area.
The idea was well received by the community.
Background
Zorkor is one of the largest communities in the Bongo District. It is ruled by 8 Chiefs and 7 Assemblymembers. Despite the larger size of the community, it has no police station, a situation that has been worrying the residents for so long.
