Hon. Rex Asanga, the municipal chief executive officer of Bolgatanga Municipality, has refuted claims made by some individuals who believe that Bolgatanga Municipal has not benefited anything from the government policy of 1District 1Factory.

Mr. Asanga claims that the Municipality has benefited from the government’s policy as a leather factory has been situated at Yorogo.

He said that the only reason the leather factory isn’t working right now is that the Trade Minister can’t find the right machines to start production.

“The buildings for our leather factory in Yorogo are completed. The issue is that the Minister of Trade has difficulty acquiring factory-appropriate machines.”

According to him, the “One District, One Factory” Initiative is an essential component of the NPP led Government’s Industrial Transformation Agenda.

The MCE said the leather factory was “A factory in the making”. “if the machines were there by now, it is going to give employment to about 60 youths.

He added that it is part of an integrated program for Accelerated Growth and Industrial Development, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Presidential Special Initiatives introduced the idea during the NPP’s first term of administration.

The initiative was formerly known as the Rural Enterprises Development Program, But it was later renamed the District Industrialization Program. It was designed as a comprehensive program for rural industrialization, involving the setting up of at least one medium to large-scale factory in each of the administrative districts of Ghana.

Reacting to the story, some members of the opposition NDC accused the MCE of deceiving the people. A senior member of the BringBackJM2024, Mr. Stanislav Kofi Ligi wondered why a serious Governemnt will construct a factory without knowing where they will get the machines to operate the factory. “He should spare us the lies,” he added.
