“Common sense has finally prevailed” Sam George reacts to decision to extend the SIM Registration Exercise

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency has reacted to the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization’s decision to extend the SIM card registration exercise.

In a tweet he made shortly after the announcement of the decision, he said “Common sense has finally prevailed. In service to God and Country”.

The Ministry issued a letter informing the public that it has extended the SIM Card registration exercise to the end of July 2022.

According to the Ministry, the exercise which was started on 1st October this year has so far linked 14,091,542 SIM cards to the Ghana Card. 10,348,532 Bio-Captures has been conducted and 99,445 new SIM cards has been registered.

The Ministry says a number of factors contributed to the extension of the exercise, including the fact that over 7.5million people are yet to obtain their Ghana Cards to enable them to get their SIM Cards registered.

Again, the Ministry is also working on the development of two different apps to enable it register Diplomats as well as other Ghanaian citizens resident abroad.

The letter which was signed by the Minister Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful commended the citizenry and other foreigners residents in Ghana for their support for the exercise so far.
