Four weeks ago, I bought day-old chicks for some young guys in my constituency to pilot a poultry farm business. Today, this is how far they’ve come. In just three more weeks, they’ll be ready for the market.

Now that they understands the business, from brooding to feeding and disease control, I’m confident enough to scale them up to 1000 birds.

In the same spirit, John Dramani Mahama, as a senior brother to the nation, has also decided to support many people with birds, feed, and medication, so they can gain practical knowledge in poultry farming. The goal is simple: create employment, build local capacity, and reduce the burden on the cedi by cutting imports of “akokɔwawu.”

With just 200 birds, you can make not less than twenty thousand cedis every two months, after feed and medication. That means about one hundred and twenty thousand cedis (1.2 billion old Ghana cedis) in a year from poultry alone. Imagine having 1000 birds. 😊

This simple breakdown is the clearest definition of Nkokɔ Nketenkete. Start small, learn fast, scale up, and build a sustainable livelihood.

Most districts are currently receiving day-old chicks from the government. Visit your District Assembly to make enquiries and take advantage of the opportunity.
