The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase Asokore Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make public the internal report led by Professor Mike Oquaye on the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s current affairs programme Face to Face on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Dr. Ayew Afriyie said he strongly disagrees with the party leadership’s decision to keep the findings confidential.

The Effiduase Asokore MP believes that making the report accessible to party members and the public would promote transparency and help the party rebuild trust within its ranks and among the Ghanaian public.

“The national leadership says they don’t want people to know how it went, so they can correct it without being ridiculed in public. I disagree with that stance. I believe the report should be made public. Heal the people. You’ve lost an election — be teased, let them use it against you. Ghanaians understand, and they will heal from that,” he stated.

According to him, openly acknowledging the loss would help the party refocus and rebuild credibility.

“Find out why you lost, and in two to three years, people will pay attention to what you’re doing better, regardless of how your opponents ridicule you,” he emphasized.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie also cited internal dissatisfaction as a factor in the defeat, stating, “Another research shows that about 20% to 25% of our own people voted for the NDC, and some didn’t vote at all.”

The NPP’s electoral defeat report, compiled by a committee led by former Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, was meant to assess the party’s performance and determine the reasons behind its 2024 electoral loss.

However, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has maintained that the report will remain confidential and used strictly for internal purposes, a stance Dr. Ayew Afriyie strongly opposes.
