Ibrahim Dauda, the Assembly Man for the Baatsona Electoral Area in the Tema West Constituency is organizing a clean-up exercise aimed at promoting cleanliness and personal hygiene practices among the residents.
The exercise which is expected to begin at 5:30 am on Saturday the 29th of June, 2024, will bring together both the young and old who are residents within the Cambodia community.
Speaking with the residents, betterghanadigest.com gathered that most of the residents are happy about the initiative and hoped that it will be replicated in other communities across the Baatsona Electoral area.
They said there were too many mosquitoes in the area and therefore hoped that the exercise will help to reduce the number and the rate at which they reproduce.
“It’s a good idea, we will all come out on that day to support. We are the same who drop the rubbish around so we must be the ones to clean it” Amina said,
“These days the mosquitoes in the area are too much, even if you use mosquito net or coil, in your room, you go out to buy food or other items in the evening. The mosquitoes are everywhere we go so we are all at risk.” Kwamena also added.
Other people were also hopeful that it would prevent diseases such as cholera and other skin infections such as rashes and foot rot due to them walking in rainwater that had gathered on the streets due to the fact that most of the drains (gutters) have been choked with rubbish.
“Oh, he has really, done well, I pray it will happen because all the gutters in the area have been blocked with rubbish so when it rains, the water gathers on the street. And because we don’t have cars, we have no choice than to walk in it. At the end of the day, we get infected with skin rashes foot-rot etc.
There will also be a free health screening exercise to offer the residents the opportunity to access some level of healthcare.
