HIGHLIGHTS ON “AMPE” GAME PROGRAM, 2024

A delegation from the United Nations Youth Association-Ghana (UNYA-GH) led by Hon. Noah Boakye, Youth Minister of Sports and Entertainment under Youth Government Initiative (YGI) together with Ayamga Matilda and Kinawin Najat (General Volunteers) participated in the launch and Demonstration of the Ampe sports in the Olympic Games in Paris, France in July 2024 organized by Cultural Games Association at the La Traditional Council forecourt in Accra on the 12th May 2024.

The sports-ignited the atmosphere and also had conversations focused on how stakeholder contributions can support the introduction and implementation of innovative indigenous games developed from everyday traditional activities which can be evolved and possibly incorporated into other international games and competitions with specific emphasis on “ampe” as a national game.

Addressing the energized gathering, Nana Boateng Gyimah II, the National President of the Cultural Games Association (CGA), spoke about how Ampe as a game can help attract more local and foreign interests and investment into the local sports and entertainment industry. He indicated that the launch demonstrates Ghana’s readiness to launch Africa’s most fascinating women sports “ampe” to the global sports market.

Hon. Noah Boakye, sharing a fraternity message and greetings from the United Nations Youth Association-Ghana (UNYA-GH) highlighted on the mission, vision and goals. He also introduced the participants to some of the salient programs and projects of UNYA-GH and extended membership invitation representative from Akuafo Hall, University of Ghana and other people who expressed interest.

Engaging with the media after the program, the YGI Youth Minister for Sports and Entertainment shared views on the game of ampe and how it can help boost morale and economic opportunities at local, national and international games. He also reiterated goodwill message from the UNYA-GH and highlighted the mission, vision, and core activities in Ghana and the diaspora.

In conclusion, the program was graced by great personalities from the sports and entertainment fraternity and natives from surrounding communities. The entire program was successful, worth participation and demonstrates the positive influence of collaborations.
