After making the squad to face Ghana on Friday in her country’s charge to qualify for the Olympic Games, Norin Betani is reportedly dead.
The Zambian striker was in contention to face the Black Queens on Friday, February 23, 2023, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Reports suggest that the striker died of malaria, which she was treating, but that wasn’t enough to keep her alive as she passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Chawama Level One hospital in Lusaka.
The unfortunate news was announced on social media by the Zambia Tourism Agency and FA, leaving fans and followers of the player in shock as expectations were for her to recover and get back to full strength.
“We mourn the loss of Norin Betani, Copper Queens, and Indeni Roses strikers who have sadly passed away. Her dedication to football made an indelible mark on Zambia’s sports tourism. Our deepest condolences to her loved ones, teammates, and fans during this challenging time,” Zambian Tourism Agency.
The Copper Queens will show their love and respect for Norin Betani before they kick off their game against Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, February 23, 2024.

In other news, Ghanaian and PAOK left-back, Abdul Baba Rahman, has regained consciousness after collapsing during a Greek Cup game against Panathinaikos.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the 115th minute of the semi-final clash when a Panathinaikos player collided with the head of the 29-year-old.
Swift medical attention was given to prevent a disastrous end. The player was subsequently rushed to the hospital where, according to reports from Greece, he is in a stable condition after losing consciousness.
The referee halted the game for a while before moving the game to penalty shoot-outs, with Panathinaikos winning 6-5 to eliminate PAOK from the Greek Cup.
