In one of his articles entitled “BAWUMIA’S PRESIDENCY: A VISION SWAMPED IN INTEGRITY CRISIS & NAÏVE MERITOCRACY“, Mr. David Zekpah observed that Dr. Bawumia’s government, just like the Electoral Commission’s officiating of the 2020 elections, has churned out several conflicting data regarding their job creation credentials.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia whilst attempting to outline his vision for creating jobs, and citing jobs created at the Ghana National Fire Service unnerved public Ghana.
Dr Mahamadu Bawumia said what is probably the most remarkable development in terms of the economy is that their government has created 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022. The public sector recruited 1.2 million people while the private sector created 975,000 jobs (per SSNIT data). He added that they recruited 100,000 more health workers, 100,000 more teachers, more than doubled the fire service personnel, etc.
“Our government has quite clearly created more jobs in a seven year period than any government. This is truly remarkable under the circumstances even though we still have to create more jobs.“ – Dr. Bawumia stated.
Commenting on the statement, Mr. David Zekpah said “For any government to dish out jobs to cronies and allies in state institutions and SOEs only to be placed on payroll to do little to nothing is not job creation. By April 2017, some SOEs did not have enough seats for newly employed workers.”
