AFCON qualifier: Onana to make national team return

Manchester United shot-stopper Andre Onana will make a return to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon after several months of absence due to an alleged altercation during the FIFA 2022 World Cup, which resulted in his early retirement from national team football.

In a statement posted on the former Ajax goalkeeper’s social media, Onana chronicled his career from the very beginning in Ngol Nkok, a small village, and concluded, I will continue to support as a fan just as the 27 million Cameroonians do at every match.

Meanwhile, he had already issued a statement explaining why he was prevented from training with the team.

In an announcement presser ahead of the final of matches for the 2023 AFCON, Coach Rigobert Song named Andre Onana as one of the three goalkeepers invited for the game. Cameroon are 2nd in Group C alonside first place Namibia, 3rd and 4th place Burundi and Kenya respectively.

The Indomitable Lions will lock horns with the swallows of Namibia on Tuesday, September 12. For his part, Andre Onana has conceded four goals in three Premier League appearances for Manchester United.
