Also included in the suit is Atourney General’s Department and the Speaker of Parliament.

Among the reliefs he seeks is a declaration that on a true and proper interpretation of Article 66 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, the number of years of a presidential term in Ghana is four years.

“A declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of Article 66 (1)  and (2) of the 1992 Constitution, a person seeking a second presidential term must be a sitting president.

“An order directed at [John Mahama] to fully disclose to Parliament the terms of his engagements with Parliament as flagbearer of a political party.”

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama contested for President on the ticket of the NDC in the 2020 elections, after he lost to the then New Patriotic candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu-Addo in 2016 with over 1 million votes margin even though he was the seating President.

However, this margin was drastically reduced to about half in the 2020 presidential elections with the NDC winning more seats in Parliament, resulting in a hunged Parliament which took the decision of an independent candidate to join the NPP in order to give it a Majority position in Parliament.

On the 13th of May 2023, the NDC endorsed Former President John Dramani Mahama as their Flagbearer for the 2024 elections with an overwhelming 98.7% over the total valid votes cast; a resounding victory over two other candidates who made a little over 1%.

John Mahama and the NDC in general have been tipped to win the upcoming 2024 general elections due to the mirriad of difficulties facing the country.
