A Yutong bus with registration number GT-5190-17 burst into flames at Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.

According to passengers of the bus, they were traveling from Tarkwa to Accra but whilst they were on their way they began to smell smoke from the bus, so the driver alighted from the bus to check for something at the rear side of the bus and on his return he didn’t say anything to them and rather continued on their journey.

The passengers disclosed that when they got to Mankessim, they prompted the driver that something seems to be leaking from the bus like petrol, consequently the driver alighted to check again but told the passengers that it wasn’t anything serious.

Information gathered revealed that when the bus got to Kasoa they bought fuel from one of the fuel stations.

Between Kasoa and Amanfrom quarters, there was a Police barrier, where the police tried to stop the bus but the Yutong bus driver sped off thinking the Police wanted to arrest him meanwhile it was reported that at the time the bus was already burning from the rear. Amidst shouts from people who saw the burning bus, the driver halted when he realized the bus was burning from the back.

The passengers rushed out of the bus with two women sustaining injuries.

The first injured woman was trampled upon by stampeding passengers. The other victim in an attempt to jump out of the burning bus landed on her arms.

Both injured persons are receiving medical attention at the Amanfro Government Hospital.

There were no deaths recorded but its reported that all items in the bus including the bus eventually burnt into ashes since there was no emergency solution to the situation until the arrival of the Fire Service later.
