The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the inclusion of Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer in the Black Stars squad as a replacement for Inaki Williams for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar.
Williams had withdrawn from the squad, citing a knee injury. In a statement, Williams explained, “For the past few weeks, I have been playing with pain in my right knee. After discussions with the medical team, we have decided to halt my participation to address the issue and ensure I am fully fit for the preseason.”
Despite his absence, Williams expressed his commitment to the national team, stating, “I will come back with the Black Stars if the coach deems it appropriate for future call-ups. Thank you for your support.”
Königsdörffer will join the squad in Accra as they begin their training camp on June 12 in preparation for the qualifier. The Black Stars will travel to Madagascar for the match scheduled to take place on June 18, 2023.
German-born Königsdörffer, who plays for Hamburger SV in the German second tier, has made just one appearance for the Black Stars.
