The Ghana Journalists Association, GJA has expressed worry about the alleged assaulted on Augustine Ahiabor, a reporter with the Angel Broadcasting Network for covering an assignment on a collapse toilet facility in Ashaiman Lebanon.

Mr Ahiabor was attacked by some members of the community on the 25th of last month. He was physically assaulted for taking video shots of the collapsed toilet facility and his phone got damaged in the process.

Mr Ahiabor subsequently lodged a complaint with the police who promised to look into the matter.

In a statement, the GJA Chapter in Tema condemned the act, and advised the public to appreciate the work of journalists since they work in their interest.

The statement further asked the public to accord journalists the respect they deserve in the line of duty. It also asked the public to seek proper redress whenever they feel aggrieved rather than attacking the journalists.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ahiabor has received medical attention and is responding to treatment.

The Ashaiman District Police have assured the GJA that it will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and bring the culprits to justice.
