David Kpodo, a member of the Better Ghana Network has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to pay particular attention to training their members on how to handle the ballot paper during voting.
He expressed disappointment in the fact that over 4000 ballots were declared by the EC as rejected ballots during counting.
According to him, the situation requires immediate attention because, if party delegates across the nation, who are made up of Branch Executives, Ward Executives, Constituency Executives, Regional Executives, National Executives, Current Members of Parliament, Former Members of Parliament, and Government Appointees end up wasting over 4,000 votes in an election where those who voted mainly consist of the party’s leadership, what then will the members at the grassroots do.
Let’s not forget that these branch executives are the ones who have direct responsibility to represent the party within the various communities.
He opined that if it were to be in the general elections, the NDC would have equally lost those votes; stating that considering the number of rejected ballots, one can easily conclude that about 90% of the rejected ballots in previous general elections were NDC votes. “It is obvious that that will affect the fortunes of the party going into the 2024 general elections” he added.
He called on the party leadership to organize training programs to ensure that the rank and file of the party members are able to vote effectively without spoiling the ballot paper. He charged the various parliamentary candidates to treat this challenge with a sense of urgency.
