The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assured its delegates, presidential, parliamentary aspirants and supporters that the party is taking legal steps to pave the way for the party’s primaries, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 13.

The assurance follows a suit filed against the primaries by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, one of the three presidential aspirants of the opposition party.

John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, and Kojo Bonsu are the three presidential aspirants of the NDC.

The campaign team of the former Finance Minister had earlier raised concerns about the credibility of the party’s voter register for the election.

In a suit filed on Tuesday, May 9, Dr. Duffuor demanded that the Electoral Commission put on hold the primaries pending the production of a complete photo album register. The plaintiff explained that data from only 220 out of the 275 constituencies had been verified, adding that an exception list of 74,799 had been created, which could not be verified because of scanty information provided about them in the photo album register. Among other things, he also wants the Party to deliver the complete voter register to him at least five weeks ahead of the election.

But the leadership of the NDC says it is confident the NDC presidential and parliamentary primaries will be held as scheduled.

A statement signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, stressed that the party made the full delegate list available to presidential candidates, contrary to Dr. Duffuor’s claims.

“We wish to assure that the party as of April 20, 2023, had made available the full Delegates List to all presidential candidates in line with our commitment stated in our guidelines that, this Primary Document, would be furnished to all presidential candidates.”

The statement issued on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, further stated, “this temporary challenge will be quickly overcome.”

It urged party members and supporters to remain calm as Ghanaians looked up to the NDC to rescue the nation from what it described as “national collapse”.
