The Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations has begun in Algeria. In the opening match, host nation Algeria beat Somalia One-nil.

Six nations will today play in the day two matches at the various venues in Algeria. Currently on going is the match between Senegal and Congo.

At 4pm Nigeria will lock horns with Zambia. The last match for the day is slated for 7pm between Morocco and South Africa.

Three stadiums are being used for this year’s tournament. Nelson Mandela in Algiers, Chahid Hamlaoui in Constantine and 19-Mai-1956 in Annaba. 

For the first time, the Under-17 AFCON is featuring 12 nations. The decision to increase the number of participants is in line with CAF’s objective of encouraging participation and offering more playing opportunities to young people. 

The top four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup as the CAF representatives
