After a mob allegedly killed a soldier over the weekend, soldiers stormed Ashaiman Tuesday dawn and arrested more than 72 individuals.
Ernest Henry Norgbey, the Ashaiman Member of Parliament, has been informed that the arrested individuals were taken away by the soldiers. According to the briefing that the Assembly member for the region gave me, 72 people have been taken into custody by the soldiers.
However, “the police commander just told me that 72 people is an understatement, and that they are more than that, they [soldiers] are still arresting people when you go to certain areas of the community,” Mr.
Norgbey stated in a radio interview that was broadcast on Citi FM and was monitored by Graphic Online.
After the dawn operation, the soldiers, according to the MP, left the area. At midday, he received a phone call announcing the arrival of another group of military personnel in the Ashaiman constituency.
In point of fact, he stated, “I actually spoke with the police commander, and he told me on authority that there are still military guys in the constituency, and they are molesting innocent residents all over the constituency.” “Because you see armoured cars, you see military vehicles, you see helicopters, which means that this thing has been sanctioned by the higher authority, and so everybody is handicapped in this matter,” he stated, the constituents were concerned about the military’s mode of operation.
Therefore, “we are just calling on them to call back their men to the barracks because these people that they are molesting are innocent people, and I’m not sure they know anything about the killing of the military guy,” the MP stated.
