March of this year, former President John Dramani Mahama will launch his campaign in the Volta Region after publicly announcing his intention to run for president again.
Mr. Mahama announced on Tuesday that he will contest the seat of the President on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general election.

On Tuesday, he reportedly met with the Minority caucus at his Cantonments office and made the official announcement.

He has already received unanimous support from NDC lawmakers in Parliament as the party’s flagbearer.

Julius Debrah, a former Chief of Staff, Professor Joshua Alabi, a former NDC Campaign Manager for the 2020 general elections, and Kofi Totobi Quakyi, a former Information Minister, attended the meeting.

In the coming days, it is anticipated that the former president will officially declare his desire to run for president again.

This occurred after the Motor Riders Union, True Drivers Union, Concerned Drivers Union, and Abossey Okai Spare-Part Dealers Association filed a petition on Monday urging John Dramani Mahama to run for president.

The unions believe that if John Dramani Mahama is elected president, he will be the best person to address the country’s current economic issues.

Introducing the request to the workplace of the previous President, the Advertising Official of the Engine Riders Association, Setsofia Quashie said Ghanaians are yearning for a change in government that will bring about the change of the economy.

If former President John Mahama decides to run in the party’s presidential primaries, the Greater Accra Region’s NDC constituency chairmen have already stated that they will support and endorse him.

During a courtesy call to Mr. Mahama, the Greater Accra Chairmen Caucus asked him to lead the party to the 2024 election.

The 33 chairmen claim that only former President John Mahama can lead the NDC and win the elections in 2024.

The caucus, led by Isaac Lamptey, Chairman of Dome Kwabenya, also promised to raise and pay the GH500,000 filing fee for Mr. Mahama to run in the NDC primaries.

The youth of the NDC in the Volta Region also want John Mahama to run unopposed for the party’s flagbearership before the elections.

“There is no need for flagbearer elections, but instead the party should directly endorse the former president as flagbearer of the party for the 2024 presidential elections,” according to the group.
