His Excellency the former President John Dramani Mahama has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to undertake a major shake-up in the current composition of his ministerial team.
According to him, it will serve the President well, particularly in times of crisis such as this, to put to use some of the powers granted him as the appointing authority.
“The suffering and pain being experienced by Ghanaians do not seem enough to jolt the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government into action. They remain stone deaf and dead set in the very misguided ways that have brought us to our knees as a country.”
Mr. Mahama, who was speaking at the launch of Think Progress Ghana made this call with specific reference to the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.
“Fire your finance minister, conduct a major shake-up of Government to remove the many dead woods that have turned ministries into their fiefdoms.”
He urged the president to huddle with the best brains emphasizing that there was the need for Ghana to formulate a comprehensive recovery plan to revive the ailing economy.
Touching on the rate at which the current Government is borrowing, John Mahama wondered whether it was a deliberate strategy to make things difficult for the next Government.
“Perhaps, the knowledge by President Akufo-Addo, his Head of the Economic Management Team and Finance Minister, that they will not be in government in the near future to carry this debt burden, has emboldened them to act so irresponsibly by borrowing this much under such exorbitant terms and conditions.”
