The National School Feeding Secretariat is pleading with the School Feeding Caterers Association of Ghana to prepare meals for pupils as government works to address their concerns.

Public Relations Officer for the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Alhaji Alfa Siiba in an interview admitted that the Secretariat owes the caterers stressing that delay in paying the arrears is due to challenges that are being addressed.

The National School Feeding Caterers Association is demanding a 300% increase in the school feeding grants following increases in prices of food items. The Caterers told journalists in Accra that they are dissatisfied with the current charge of 97 pesewas per plate which they say, is making it extremely difficult for them to continue cooking for the Pupils.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, Secretary of the Association, Helena Appiah said the Caterers are demanding an increase from the 97 pesewas per plate to at least GHC2 per plate. She stressed that they will not take anything short of that, otherwise, they will have to ”stop cooking”.

Madam Helena Appiah said several attempts to reach the School Feeding Coordinator have proved futile. The Caterers say they expect a positive response from government soon.

Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled with the Caterers on Monday, May 16, 2022, to find a lasting solution to the issue.
