Serwaa Broni Saga: 3 Ghanaians petition Parliament to impeach Akufo-Addo over

0

Three Ghanaians are seeking to get President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo impeached over allegations by one Evelyn Serwaa Broni.

They have thus petitioned Parliament to commence the impeachment process following Serwaa Broni’s allegations that President Akufo-Addo and some of his assigns orchestrated a robbery attack on her, over her supposed threat to expose the President regarding an alleged romantic affair with her.

The trio, Issifu Seidu Kudus Gbeadese, Elikem Kotoko, and Stephen Kwabena Attuh, held that the petition is well-grounded to invoke Article 69 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and warrant an inquiry into the matter and a subsequent impeachment proceeding initiated by Parliament to give effect to the letter and spirit of the Constitution.

According to them, the allegations, if proven to be true, would amount to “human rights abuse, abuse of office, exposing the security of Ghana to external threat…” as well as “…dragging the name of the high office of President into disrepute”.

Also in their petition, they indicated that they draw their motivation for their action from Article 41 (a), (b), and (f) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana to uphold and defend the Constitution.

This is coming after the opposition Members of Parliament hinted at taking legal action against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has already waded into the ongoing Serwaa Broni saga, serving notice of possible legal action against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

But their intended legal action is conditional.

The group says that course of action will be initiated should allegations levelled at the president by the Canadian-based Ghanaian lady turns out to be true.

Serwaa Broni has in the last few months been trending on social media for perhaps all the wrong reasons.

Besides claiming to have had an affair with the President, she has among other things, posted images with the President and screenshots of chats she claims to be between her and President Akufo-Addo; to buttress her assertions.

Over the weekend, she alleged during a media engagement with one Kevin Taylor that there was an orchestrated robbery attack on her which she pinned on the President and some of his assigns.

It is unclear whether these allegations are what might have piqued the Minority’s interest for them to obtain a copy of the said interview.

The Minority, in a statement signed by their leader, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, believes the allegations raised by Serwaa Broni raise issues of “abuse of office, human right violations, and conduct which seeks to bring the high office of President of Ghana into disrepute.”

Portions of the statement read “the NDC Caucus has consequently requested and obtained a copy of the full interview in issue for further study, transcription and legal analysis”

The caucus gave assurance that it would inform the public of its next line of action after reviewing the interview.

The NDC Caucus in Parliament has become aware of very scandalous allegations contained in an interview granted Mr. Ekow Kevin Taylor by Madam Evelyn Serwaa Broni on Easter Sunday the 17th of April, 2022.
