Ghana Black Stars have booked a place for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after a spirited display against Nigeria on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, resulting in a 1-1 draw in Abuja.
With the first leg ending 0-0 in Kumasi, the garden city of, Ghana knew a draw would be enough to secure their place in Qatar.
Despite the unending noise from the crowd at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja-Nigeria to unsettle the Ghanaian players in the early stages of the game, it was the Black Stars who grabbed a crucial opener.
Thomas Partey, the Captain of the Stars scored that very important goal to give Ghana the lead against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 10th minute, upsetting the Super Eagles.
The Arsenal midfielder’s powerful effort went straight through Super Eagles goalie Uzoho and into the back of the net sparking wild celebrations from the away side.
The lead, however, lasted for only 12 minutes as Nigeria equalized courtesy of a controversial penalty scored by William Troost-Ekong.
Ghana defended well afterward to eventually qualify for a fourth World Cup final.
