Green Ghana project is a project launched by the President of the republic of Ghana which is spearheaded by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to  plant and nature  Five(5) million trees across Ghana.

The exercise has witnessed the participation of various state institutions, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and non-governmental organizations in Ghana to plant different species of trees to restore the depleted forest resources in Ghana.

The manager of the NHIA Office in Pru East District in the Bono East Region Mr Ahmed Tamimu led his staff to plant over 20 trees to mark the day.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Ahmed intimated that the colour green which represents vegetation signifies good health and the growth to be derived by our members who join the scheme. So, their participation in the exercise to green Ghana is in line with the NHIS strategic objective of achieving Universal Health Coverage in Ghana; hence the colour of their logo as an institution includes green.

He added that, at the end of the tree planting exercise, all the participants were sensitized and educated on the NHIS policies especially the mobile renewal system of the NHIS and linking NHIS card with Ghana card using *929#.

Mr. Ahmed Tamimu appealed to every Ghanaian to try as much as they can to plant and nature at least a tree each wherever they are to enhance our vegetation and also make the Green Ghana campaign a success. He pleaded with religious bodies, state institutions, NGOs and individuals in the country to participate fully in the exercise in order to replace our lost vegetation in order to absolve ourselves from blame by the future generation.

He concluded by reminding participants that the code for the NHIS mobile renewal and linking Ghana card with NHIS card is *929# and recounted the benefits of subscribing to it.
