A 31-acre maize farm belonging to the 2019 National Best maize farmer Mr John Dimah in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region has been burnt.
Mr John Dimah who is still counting his loss, told Tumu-based Radford Fm in an interview that the incident happened whilst he was away attending a funeral in his hometown of Kusali.
He revealed that 21 acres of the farm had been harvested whilst 10 other acres were yet to be harvested before the destruction.
The farmer adds that an acre gives an average of 35 to 40 kilograms of the mini bags which results to a total loss of 1,147 mini bags of maize running into several thousands of Ghana Cedis.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is yet to be known.
This comes few weeks after a 52-year-old visually impaired farmer, Mr Aduni Achana, has been left distraught and penniless after his two-acre worth of rice was reduced to ashes by fire.
